License Plate Readers Policy Available Now

February 9, 2017

Automatic license plate readers (ALPRs)—also known as license plate readers (LPRs)—use image-processing technology to identify vehicles by their license plates. LPRs automate a process that, in the past, was conducted manually by officers, license plate by license plate, with much officer discretion. Using a special form of optical character recognition (OCR), the LPR’s algorithms transform pixels of a digital image into the text of a license plate. Since entering the market, LPRs have been employed in many applications, but one of the fastest-growing uses is by justice entities who use LPR technology as an investigative tool... click here to read the full article and to access the policy.

The FirstNet Colorado Newsletter January Edition Is Here

February 2, 2017

FirstNet Colorado has released their newsletter for January 2017.

The FirstNet partner award announcement will not be made until March 1, 2017 or later. The delay is due to a protest filed with the U.S. Court of Federal Claims by Rivada Mercury, one of the three previously known bidders in the process. AT&T is the only publicly known bidder believed to remain in the federal procurement process.

Rest assured, this temporary delay is not stalling Colorado's public safety broadband planning efforts! Our team is preparing a comprehensive tool to allow local, state and tribal stakeholders to assess the state plan. Additionally, Colorado anticipates publishing its own Request for Proposal (RFP) for an alternative state plan in preparation for the Governor's decision sometime (we estimate) in late 2017. Stay tuned!
